Algorithms Unplugged : a Card Game of the Bebras-like Tasks for High Schools Students
نویسنده
چکیده
The way to ensure that students will learn informatics (computer science) concepts is focused on learner's intrinsical motivation. Informatics concepts based on tasks and puzzles raise students' interest. Teachers need diverse activities that can lead students to deeper understanding. Algorithms are very important part of informatics. Thus we need to introduce various algorithms even at school. Based on our long experience at informatics education research, we proposed an algorithm card game in particular for high school students to discover Algorithms Unplugged. For this purpose, Bebras-like tasks were created, by placing one task per card. An idea of the card game was originated on the ground of the Bebras tasks from the International Challenge on Informatics and Computational Thinking . The Algorithms Unplugged are closely linked to CS Unplugged activities .

Exploring Bebras Tasks Content and Performance: A Multinational Study
Although there is no universal agreement that students should learn programming, many countries have reached a consensus on the need to expose K-12 students to Computational Thinking (CT). When, what and how to teach CT in schools are open questions and we attempt to address them by examining how well students around the world solved problems in recent Bebras challenges. We collected and analyz...

Computational thinking is an increasingly important focus in computer science or informatics curricula around the world, and ways of incorporating it into the school curricula are being sought. The Bebras contest on informatics, which originated 12 years ago and now involves around 50 countries, consists of short problem-solving tasks based on topics in informatics. Bebras tasks engender the de...

In this paper, we present the results from a multi-national study of students’ results in the international IT contest ”Bebras”. Bebras provides motivating and game-like tasks in the format of multiplechoice questions and interactive problems to students in grades 2–12. Our study focuses on the results of nearly 8 000 students aged 10–13 in Finland (n=852), Sweden (n=201) and Lithuania (n=7 022...

متن کاملNew Methodology of Information Education with "Computer Science Unplugged"
We introduced “Computer Science Unplugged” to our classes in junior and senior high schools. “Unplugged” is an education method of computer science without students using a computer at all. For our classes, we developed original teaching materials and methods for Unplugged. As a result, the students could learn the topics of computer science with interest by using Unplugged. They enjoyed the ga...
